Carolina Prison Ministries – Letter Writing Guide

Purpose

 Our letters exist to bring hope, encouragement, and the love of Jesus Christ to those impacted by incarceration.

The Heart of Every Letter 

Each letter should be:
– Encouraging 
– Respectful 
– Christ-centered 
– Rooted in Scripture 

Suggested Themes You can write about:


– God’s love and forgiveness 
– Hope and new beginnings 
– Prayer and encouragement 
– Trusting God in difficult seasons 
– Identity in Christ 

Helpful Structure 


1. Greeting (warm and personal) 
2. Encouragement (life-giving words) 
3. Scripture (1–2 verses) 
4. Reflection (simple application) 
5. Closing (prayer or blessing)

Example Tone 

“Just wanted to remind you that you are not forgotten. God sees you, knows you, and cares deeply for you…”

What to Avoid

 To maintain unity and clarity:

– Avoid doctrinal debates 
– Avoid controversial or divisive topics 
– Avoid presenting personal beliefs as official teaching 
– Do not argue or correct 

Important Guidelines 

– All letters represent Carolina Prison Ministries 
– Keep messages simple, uplifting, and consistent 
– When in doubt, focus on Jesus, hope, and encouragement

Optional (Recommended for New Volunteers) 

New volunteers may submit a sample letter for alignment and support before beginning.
